Why we built this?
1 in 10 people over 65 are diagnosed with a cognitive impairment. Alzheimer's is the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. There are 15 million Americans taking care of their relatives with dementia or Alzheimer's. Stress is high, outcomes are poor, and resources are limited. We're here to change this.
The nature of the Alzheimer's and dementia diseases is such that it profoundly impacts the lives of the family members surrounding a diagnosed person. There are few support systems in place to help families make the onerous transition to roles of full time caregivers. For many spouses and children, it can mean dropping personal interests, professional opportunities, and outside relationships to take care of a relative. Caregiver burden and stress is well documented, but little exists to meaningfully ease the issue.
June Care was founded with first-hand experience of this problem. At June, we're interested in developing a platform to empower caregivers throughout the entire care continuum, and we're just beginning.
